Cher, the 69-year-old singer often referred to as the Goddess of Pop, has been announced as the face of Marc Jacobs' fashion line.
Given that we are in the digital age, the designer hinted at the pairing by posting an image of the singer in all-black attire on his Instagram with the caption, “The amazing and beautiful CHER! Photographed by David Sims for our Fall/Winter campaign.. This is just the beginning.... More to come!!” The official Marc Jacobs Instagram page released the announcementtwo hours later with the caption, “The first face of our Fall ’15 ad campaign @Cher.” Jacobs and Cher were spotted together during the Met Gala earlier in May.
No stranger to fashion, many of Cher’s iconic looks have been imitated, from her jet-black long hair, her Cherokee-inspired tunics, and being the first woman to expose her navel on television while starring in Cher. Cher is also one of the few artists to win a Grammy, an Emmy, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award, holding a record of having #1 singles in five decade on the Billboard charts.
It would be no surprise that the fashion house juggernaut would pick an iconic trendsetter for their Fall collection, and the news comes seven days after the singer’s 69th birthday. Given her prestige, the veteran singer shows that aging is no indication of a woman’s career slowing down.
